del.icio.us down for two hours - at least

Wow, I guess internet services still can crash with style.

For two hours I haven't been able to get in contact with bookmarking service del.icio.us, which is one of my most used online services. Needless to say, I felt quite handicapped.

It's back online again now, but a very strong reminder, that the performance needs to be in place if you want to rely 100 percent on a service as del.icio.us to keep your booksmarks, like I do.

At this moment nothing regarding the crash has been posted at the del.icio.us blog, so the only information regarding it is an error message, which appeared a few minutes before the service went back online:

Internal Error

Apologies, it seems something is horribly wrong with our code.

If you keep receiving this message, please send us a message with the offending URL.

Apology accepted?

Update @ 17:26:
Another blog post on the downtime on del.icio.us and with a link to a neat service (Summize) which you can use to scan/search Twitter.

Update @ 17:35:
In our Jaiku talk (in Danish) Mark posted a link to the service Down for everyone or just me? — great tool.

No more del.icio.us posts

I've decided to post no my del.icio.us-posts to my blog. Here are the reasons:

  1. Right now it just keeps failing and no posts get through. I have no idea what happened
  2. I bookmark a lot of stuff that isn't new media and/or it related and that messes up this blog
  3. Some of the bookmarks are Danish which makes no sense to my international readers

So, if you still want to follow my bookmarks go to del.icio.us/larskjensen or use this feed url to stay updated on my bookmarks:

Wicked del.icio.us Firefox extension update

Today when I launched my Firefox I got a notification that there was an update available to my del.icio.us bookmarks extension.

Normally I never really get to see what has actually been updated in an extension — usually it's just a design or stability issue.

But this time the good folks at del.icio.us/Yahoo! have added a very nice feature!

If I press CTRL+B in my Firefox it opens a del.icio.us sidebar, which lists all my tags and lets me search in them.

Whenever I click on a tag, or search for a certain tag, the content (meaning the bookmarks) of that tag (all bookmarks tagged with that certain tag) will be listed in the bottom half of the sidebar. Very nice!

Read more about the extension — you can see a screen shot of the sidebar at work if you scroll down to "Sidebar search".

You can also read about the other features, among them a del.icio.us toolbar, that I'm going to check out now…

del.icio.us extension for Firefox supports Microsummaries

I have previously written about Microsummaries a feature introduced in Firefox 2.0.

I've been hoping that online bookmarking service del.icio.us would support Microsummaries, and now they do.

Or at least in a del.icio.us extension for Firefox. I have written about this extension in a post entitled "THE Firefox extension at the moment: Firefox and del.icio.us unite!".

When you have this extension installed, you simply press CTRL/CMD+D when you're at the page, you want to bookmark. Note that the name of the bookmark field is also a drop down box. So just click the button to expand the menu, and select the Microsummaries title.

It's illustrated here:

I'm not yet sure if the Microsummaries title shows up in the list at del.icio.us…

Update 1: After posting this and reloading my del.icio.us bookmarks it seems that del.icio.us don't support Microsummaries full yet, since it still has the "Ode to WordPress" title. :-(

THE Firefox extension at the moment: Firefox and del.icio.us unite!

This has to be one of the best Firefox extensions I've seen EVER.

It's called del.icio.us Bookmarks and what it basically does is that it imports your del.icio.us bookmarks into Firefox!

Note that it replaces your current Firefox bookmarks/favorites, but the extension allows you to import them into del.icio.us - fancy!

So now I have my bookmarks right here in Firefox. They're all listed by tags in "Bookmarks" –> "Tags" — and I like it :D

If you use del.icio.us and Firefox you should definitely check this out!

By the way, the extension is created by Yahoo! Inc.

del.icio.us Bookmarks Firefox extension

Update 1: I just disovered that this extension disables Firefox' ability to handle Microsummaries. All though I like Microsummaries I still like this del.icio.us thingy more :P

Update 2: I forgot to mention that I found this extension via Techtree.com *oops*

Update 3: I just discovered that your del.icio.us bookmarks apparently stays in Firefox all though you "logged out" of the extension. So I guess you shouldn't use this on a shared computer, unless you want to screw up the bookmarks on that computer ;-)
