Put the G in Gmail
Feb 26th, 2007 @ 15:17Steve Rubel has done a very interesting post on how you can use Gmail as a resource in various ways.
"Turn Gmail Into Your Personal Nerve Center".
It's a great read if you want to know how services like Gmail can be used in many ways!

You know, I still don't use Gmail. I am not sure why, just never appealed to me I suppose. Some intersting tricks, but nothing I would find my self using.

Gmail rules but I don't use, and probably never will use any of the extensions he mentions. If I need to use Delicious, I just log in, if I need to blog, I just log in. I also have a paper diary which is always with me.

The key word, for me, in Gmail is mobility: I can have all my e-mails travelling around with me. Never again will I have to wait until I get home to find a specific e-mail using a somewhat outdated search mechanism in an offline e-mail application.
And now that Gmail supports mail fetching using POP3 I can use Gmail for it all — all though I still have 3/4 different Gmail accounts, but I stay up-to-date using software like ePrompter.
But as I mention above: The fact that my e-mails are constantly at the end of my fingertips (provided that I'm at a place with a working internet connection :-) ) is a must-have feature for me.
Apart from that, I agree with Aaron, that some, or much, of the stuff Rubel mentions probably isn't something, that I myself will put to use. But hey - now you know that it's possible ;-)
