Problems with Google's mobile e-mail app

Me and Google's mobile Gmail (Google Mail) application for mobile phones aren't best friends right now. Far from it.
When I first installed the app on my Sony Ericsson W800i it worked fine, but now it's rubbish. The problems started some time ago, when it all of a sudden wouldn't open any e-mails. Instead it just presented me with a network error message.
So today I decided to reinstall it, figuring that something might had gone wrong with it. But now it's even worse.
When I search for e-mail, I get logged out and it displays:
»Username and password do not match. You provided ()«
So literally I can't use the application for anything right now.
Has anyone else had the same problems with Google mobile Gmail application?
It's a good thing that we have Opera Mini for checking Gmail on the mobile :-)
Just a small PS: I have heard that there are some problems with the Gmail application, if you don't have your Gmail set to English…

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am experiencing a similar problem with the gmail app I just installed on my blackberry 7250. Please let me know if you've got any info.
Thanks

This Danish guy has a solution, that worked for him:
Tell your phone not to use a proxy for Java applications.
That might work for you as well…
